Food Hunting in Madrid, Spain

I guess if I have to describe Madrid in one word, I will say FOOD.

Honestly thats what I remember most about Madrid.

Really good and cheap food!

Though I have to admit, again like in Valencia, we didn't really have a fixed itinerary for Madrid except for the Real Madrid stadium.

One of the places that I was most excited to go to was Mercado San Miguel aka Market of San Miguel.

I have no idea why but I am such a sucker for food market.

La Boqueria market in Barcelona used to be my favourite, I drag people there all three times I went to Barcelona, but I think I have a changed of heart after Madrid.

Main reason is because there was more food.....obviously.

La Boqueria in Barcelona is sort of balanced between food and raw stuff.

Mercado Central in Valencia is more like a wet market? Raw stuff basically.

But Mercado San Miguel is more towards food hence why its the winner.

At the entrance.

So many types of olives.

Photo bomber extraordinaire on the left. Totally in sync with us.

Dan and I were really intrigued by this.

Just some of the food we tried in the market.

You will definitely be spoilt for choice there.

From raw stuff to cooked ones and to desserts.

Theres just so many things that you can try especially if you don't have access to such food on a daily basis.

So bring cash if you plan to eat all the way.

The market was neatly organised and clean so plus points for that.

We Asian countries need really to learn a thing or two on cleanliness and hygiene from them. Like REALLY.

It is the most popular market among tourists as it is located in central Madrid and close by to Plaza Mayor, another tourist attraction.

So it is very easily accessible and not out of the way like some attractions.

And......cue the drumrolls................

It closes at 12am on Sunday to Wednesday and 2am on Thursday to Saturday!

Forgive me.

It seems silly to get excited over a market closing late at night but honestly, when one studies in the UK, one will truly appreciate anything that closes late at night besides bars and clubs.

The need for real food (pizzas, fried chickens and kebabs does not count) at night is very very real especially when one hails from a country with access to food 24/7.

You know your country is a food heaven when you can get access to dim sum all day long every single day :)

Till the next post, ciao!
